The Memphis Grizzlies and Philadelphia 76ers meet Wednesday in NBA preseason action at the Wells Fargo Center.
The Memphis Grizzlies are coming off a 92-84 victory over the Orlando Magic and play their first preseason road game. In the victory, the Grizzlies shot 40 percent from the field and held Orlando to just 36.4 percent shooting. Mario Chalmers led Memphis with 19 points and two assists while Jarell Martin had 16 points and four rebounds. Brandan Wright grabbed eight rebounds in 17 minutes and Chandler Parsons dished three assists. The Grizzlies defensive pressure was in regular season form and should continue to thrive under a hard-nosed coach such as David Fizdale. He’s the type of coach who believes games are won in exhibition play and practice, so he’ll push his players this time of season. The Memphis Grizzlies are an even more intriguing team if they can can get production from players outside of Mike Conley and Marc Gasol.

The Philadelphia 76ers hope this is the season they can get back in the playoffs after being the laughingstock of the league for so long. The 76ers have an intriguing backcourt of rookie Markelle Fultz and JJ Redick, but the real excitement comes with the health of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. Two of the most talented young players in the league with extremely high potential but haven’t been able to get over the injury bug since entering the NBA. If those guys can gel on the court and players such as Robert Covington and T.J. McConnell can continue to make strides in their game, the 76ers will be a fun and winning basketball team this season. Wait, did I just say that? The Philadelphia 76ers open the preseason with back-to-back home games, so this is a chance to kind of set the tone early.
The Grizzlies are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The 76ers are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and the over is 6-2 in 76ers last 8 Wednesday games. The Grizzlies are 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings in Philadelphia, 1-4-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings and the over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia 76ers should have a packed house for once with the expectations being increased this season and youth matters in games like this. While the Grizzlies are still an old, slow basketball team, the youngsters should be able to speed this game up and get more looks. That should be the difference in this game, resulting in a 76ers victory.
