The Dallas Mavericks and Orlando Magic meet Thursday in NBA preseason action at the Amway Center.
The Dallas Mavericks improved to 2-0 with a preseason victory over the Chicago Bulls, 118-71, Wednesday night. In the victory, the Mavericks shot 50 percent from the field and made 18 threes. Harrison Barnes led the Mavs with 17 points and four rebounds while Dennis Smith Jr. had 14 points and three assists. J.J. Barea was a third double-digit scorer and Dirk Nowitzki grabbed nine rebounds. The Mavericks have combined for 224 points in their two preseason games and have made 31 threes. However, it’s going to be interesting to see how the Mavs manage this game considering it is a rare back-to-back preseason contest and this is an older team. In fact, coach Rick Carlisle says that the Dallas Mavericks “really old guys” won’t be making the trip for this game in hopes of keeping his core players rested for the regular season.

The Orlando Magic lost their preseason debut to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday, 92-84. In the losing effort, the Magic shot 36.4 percent from the field and made just five of 32 three-point attempts. Jonathan Isaac led the Magic with 15 points and three rebounds while Mario Hezonja had 12 points and two assists. Evan Fournier had five assists in 15 minutes and Elfrid Payton grabbed five rebounds. The Magic didn’t play any of their starters more than 15 minutes, as rookies and guys fighting for playing time had their chance to shine. Unfortunately, the Orlando Magic were one of the worst shooting teams in the opening week of the preseason and that includes just 62.5 percent from the free throw line. While it was just one preseason game, this is a young Magic team that could use a confidence boost before the regular season begins.
The Mavericks are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games playing on 0 days rest and 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Magic are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games playing on 2 days rest and the over is 5-1-1 in Magic last 7 overall. The Mavericks are 9-2 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Orlando and the over is 18-6 in the last 24 meetings.
It looks like a lot of the key players for the Mavs stayed home, and the other guys just played last night. The Magci got smoked in their preseason opener and have to shoot the ball better, but at least they have their full team ready to go. I'll take the home team in this spot as more of a fade from Dallas and it's limited roster, even though this is a lot of points to lay with a subpar basketball team in a meaningless game.
