The Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons meet Friday in NBA preseason action at the Little Caesars Arena.
The Atlanta Hawks are 1-1 in preseason play and are playing their third straight road game. In the Hawks victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, they shot 48.8 percent from the field and outscored the Cavs by 10 points in the fourth quarter. Dennis Schroder led the Hawks with 18 points and four assists while Taurean Prince had 15 points and eight rebounds. Dewayne Dedmon was another double-digit scorer and Nicolas Brussino grabbed five rebounds. The Hawks have looked better than expected regardless of how much stock you put into preseason play, and a win over the Eastern Conference champs on the road has to do wonders for their confidence. The one area you’d like to see the Atlanta Hawks clean up are the simple mistakes, as they’ve combined for 36 turnovers in their first two games.
USA TODAY Sports
The Detroit Pistons lost their preseason opener to the Charlotte Hornets, 108-106. In the loss, the Pistons shot 47 percent from the field and turned the ball over 19 times. Andre Drummond led the Pistons with 16 points and 15 rebounds while Avery Bradley had 14 points and three assists. Tobias Harris was a third double-digit scorer and Boban Marjanovic grabbed seven rebounds. The Pistons had seven players score in double-digits, which doesn’t result in losses very often, but that’s what happens when you send a team to the line 33 times and give up 11 made threes. Either way, the Detroit Pistons have struggled with their offense in the past, so I’m sure Stan Van Gundy and his staff will take the offensive explosion in exhibition play.
The Hawks are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up win and the under is 3-0-1 in Hawks last 4 games following a straight up win. The under is 7-1-1 in Pistons last 9 games playing on 1 days rest and 9-1 in Pistons last 10 home games. The over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Detroit and 7-1 in the last 8 meetings.
The Detroit Pistons should be ready for a bounce back performance in their second preseason game, and I'm sure Stan Van Gundy will have the guys get back to their defensive roots. The Hawks just aren't a deep basketball team and playing a third straight road game could finally catch up to them. I'll lay the two buckets with the Pistons at home.
