The Miami Heat and Orlando Magic meet Saturday in NBA preseason action at the Amway Center.
The Miami Heat are 1-1 in preseason play and will play their second road game. In the Heat’s 107-88 loss to the Brooklyn Nets, Miami shot 37.6 percent from the field and made just four of 27 threes. Hassan Whiteside led the Heat with 19 points and nine rebounds while Goran Dragic had 12 points and one assist. Tyler Johnson had 21 points off the bench and Josh Richardson dished four assists in 25 minutes. The Heat have allowed a combined 197 points in their first two games, numbers that aren’t going to make that coaching staff happy considering this is a defensive first basketball team. However, the Heat’s key players have performed well in the preseason, so there’s no reason to panic. The Miami Heat have now split their last 10 preseason games overall.

The Orlando Magic are 1-1 in preseason play as well and are coming off a 112-89 win over the Dallas Mavericks. In the victory, the Magic allowed 33 percent shooting and turned the ball over only 11 times. Aaron Gordon led the Magic with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Nikola Vucevic had 14 points and one assist. Mario Hezonja was the third double-digit scorer and Elfrid Payton dished out five assists. The Magic dominated their second preseason game, but keep in mind that the Mavs rested all of their key players due to playing on the end of a back-to-back. It’ll be interesting to see if the Magic can follow up such a performance against a younger and deeper team in the Miami Heat. The Orlando Magic have lost six of their last nine preseason games overall.
The Heat are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 1 days rest, 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Saturday games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games. The Magic are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win and the over is 4-0 in Magic last 4 games following a ATS win. The over is 10-3-1 in the last 14 meetings in Orlando and 5-1 in the last 6 meetings.
Whether it's preseason, regular season or the postseason, I usually side with the better team when getting points or in a pick em. While the Heat will be playing with their lineup to figure out who is going to start at the forward spot, they're the better and deeper team than the young Magic. I also need to see if Orlando's performance against Dallas was real or only happened because the Mavs rested all of their key players. Give me the better squad in this toss up game even if it is on the road.
