The Houston Rockets and New York Knicks meet Monday in NBA preseason action at Madison Square Garden on NBATV.
The Houston Rockets look to build on their 2-0 preseason and are coming off a win over Shanghai. In the victory, the Rockets shot 60.4 percent from the field and made 22 threes. Trevor Ariza led the Rockets with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Clint Capela had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Paul was the third double-digit scorer and James Harden dished 10 assists. The Houston Rockets have combined for 248 points in their first two preseason games and shot lights out in their last game even if it wasn’t against an NBA team. The Rockets look exactly like the team they hope to be in the regular season, a team that’s going to shoot a high percentage and make a lot of shots from downtown. Only time will tell if these type of performances can continue with consistency.

The New York Knicks look for their first preseason victory after an 0-3 start. In the Knicks loss to the Brooklyn Nets, the Knicks shot 37.8 percent from the field and had 24 turnovers. Willy Hernangomez led the Knicks with 17 points and 12 rebounds while Tim Hardaway Jr. had 13 points and one assist. Ramon Sessions was the third double-digit scorer and Kyle O'Quinn grabbed six rebounds. The Knicks have allowed 100-plus points in all three of their games, which doesn’t inspire much confidence heading into the regular season. The New York Knicks simply need to find a consistent rotation in these next couple of exhibition games that they’re happy with and that gives them the best chance to win ballgames.
The Rockets are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games playing on 3 or more days rest and the over is 4-1 in Rockets last 5 road games. The Knicks are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Monday games and the under is 8-2-1 in Knicks last 11 overall. The Rockets are 14-3 ATS in the last 17 meetings in New York, 15-5 ATS in the last 20 meetings and the over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
Once again, I'm not going to leave this many points on the table in a meaningless preseason game where starters are limited and the main goal isn't truly to win. So many times we've been burned in the preseason due to backups playing the whole fourth quarter and teams blowing massive leads because of it. So, while the Rockets are head and shoulders the better team, the value is usually with the points in nothing short of practice games.
