The Atlanta Hawks and the New Orleans Pelicans do battle at the Smoothie King Center on Monday night.
The Atlanta Hawks have won just two of their first 13 games of the season and they will be hoping to snap a three-game skid after Saturday’s 113-94 loss at Washington. Taurean Prince led the scoring with 19 points, Marco Belinelli added 15 points while Dewayne Dedmon and Kent Bazemore added 13 points each. As a team, the Hawks shot just 41 percent from the field and they committed a total of 24 turnovers which led to 39 points for the Wizards. With the disappointing loss, Atlanta dropped to 2-11 overall and 2-7 on the road where they’ve lost their last two games.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans have won four of their last five games and they will be looking to build on Saturday’s 111-103 home win over the Clippers. DeMarcus Cousins led the way with 35 points, 15 rebounds and five assists, Anthony Davis added 25 points with 10 rebounds and five assists while E’Twaun Moore chipped in with 18 points as the Pelicans shot 54 percent from the field. Turnovers were a problem as the Pelicans finished with 23 as a team, but they made up for that on the defensive end as they held the Clippers to just 41 percent shooting for the game.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hawks are 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight road games, 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games following a loss of more than 10 points and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 against the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Pelicans are 7-0 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record, 4-1 ATS in their last five against the Eastern Conference and 5-0 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings and the underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings.
The Hawks have been in a major slump and they’re coming into this game fresh off a big loss to the Wizards so I don’t feel too good about their chances against a Pelicans team playing with plenty of momentum. I think the Pelicans kick the Hawks while their down with a double-digit win at home.
