The Los Angeles Lakers have split their last six games but they will be hoping to bounce back after having their two-game win streak snapped by the Kings in a 113-102 road loss on Wednesday. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the team with 20 points on seven of 12 shooting, Kyle Kuzma added 17 points while Jordan Clarkson chipped in with 15 points off the bench. As a team, the Lakers shot 50 percent from the field and 15 of 29 from the three-point line but it still wasn’t enough to get the win as they started the game with no energy and it cost them as they could never really recover after falling behind by double-digits in the first quarter. With the disappointing loss, the Lakers dropped to 8-11 on the season and 2-6 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers look to have finally recovered from their nine-game skid with their second straight win, beating the Kings by 97-95 on Saturday to improve to 7-11 on the season. Blake Griffin led the way with 33 points on 13 of 25 shooting, Lou Williams added 18 points while Austin Rivers chipped in with 14 points and seven assists. As a team, the Clippers shot 47 percent from the field and nine of 28 from the three-point line, but they will count themselves a little lucky after they blew a nine-point lead late in the fourth quarter only to escape with the narrow win on a clutch mid-range shot from Griffin with just three seconds left on the clock.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 2-5 ATS in their last seven Monday games, 4-12 ATS in their last 16 road games against a team with a losing home record and 1-4 ATS in their last five road games. Meanwhile, the Clippers are 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 games against a team with a losing record, 1-5 ATS in their last six home games and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 10-2 in the last 12 meetings and the Lakers are 4-13 ATS in the last 17 meetings in Los Angeles as the road team.
These two teams last met in the season opener and it was the Clippers who dominated the Lakers in a 108-92 win. Lonzo Ball will be relieved that he won’t have to match up against the Clippers’ Patrick Beverley who is out for the remainder of the season and that can’t be underestimated as the Clippers have struggled since he went down. I’m not in love with this pick but I’m leaning with the Lakers with the points in a minor upset.
