The Dallas Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs collide at the AT&T Center on Monday night.
The Dallas Mavericks started the season winning just two of their first 16 games but they’re finally on a bit of a roll as they’ve won three of their last four including a 97-81 rout of the Thunder on Saturday. Dirk Nowitzki led the team in scoring with a season-high 19 points on seven of 10 shooting, Dennis Smith Jr. added 15 points while Harrison Barnes chipped in with 12 points and 12 rebounds. As a team, the Mavs shot 49 percent from the field and 15 of 35 from the three-point line but they deserve a lot of credit for their defense, especially in the second quarter where they held the Thunder to just 13 points. With the win, Dallas improved to 5-15 on the season and 3-9 at home.

Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have been in pretty good form as they’ve won five of their last seven games and they will be looking to build on Saturday’s 106-86 win at Charlotte. LaMarcus Aldridge and Pau Gasol led the scoring with 17 points each while Rudy Gay added 15 points off the bench. As a team, the Spurs shot 49 percent from the field and six of 25 from the three-point line as they never looked threatened after taking an early double-digit lead in the second quarter. The Spurs had three days of rest coming into that game and made it count as they played great defense to hold the Hornets to just 36 percent shooting from the field and four of 25 from the three-point line. With the win, San Antonio improved to 12-7 on the season and 4-5 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Mavericks are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record, 6-14-1 ATS in their last 21 games against the Western Conference and 8-17-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall. Meanwhile, the Spurs are 6-1 ATS in their last seven home games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a win of more than 10 points and 7-15 ATS in their last 22 Monday games.
Head to head, the road team is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings, the Mavs are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings overall and the 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings in San Antonio.
The Mavs are finally starting to gain some momentum with three wins in their last four outings, so it should be a good matchup against the Spurs who continue to win games despite missing a couple of key starters. I’m confident the Spurs will win this game at home where they have covered in six of their last seven games but I think the Mavs have been playing well enough to at least keep this one to single digits.
