The Los Angeles Clippers play host to the Minnesota Timberwolves at the STAPLES Center on Wednesday night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves will be searching for a bit of momentum as they’ve now split their last eight games following their 95-92 loss at Memphis on Monday. Jimmy Butler led the team with 30 points and five assists, Taj Gibson added 14 points while Jeff Teague and Andrew Wiggins added 12 points each. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 44 percent from the field but just four of 17 from the three-point line as they fell just short of forcing overtime after Butler missed a three-pointer with time expiring. The Timberwolves needed a little more from Wiggins who shot just six of 17 from the field and Karl-Anthony Towns who scored just seven points. With the loss, Minnesota dropped to 14-11 overall and 6-7 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers have lost 12 of their last 15 games and they will be hoping to snap a three-game skid after falling to the Timberwolves in a 112-106 loss on Sunday. Austin Rivers drained seven three-pointers to lead the team with 30 points and five assists, Lou Williams added 23 points and 10 assists off the bench while DeAndre Jordan chipped in with 17 points and 12 rebounds. As a team, the Clippers shot 50 percent from the field and 15 of 34 from the three-point line but in a close contest, the Clippers had no answer for the Timberwolves’ Butler who scored nine straight points midway through the fourth quarter. With the loss, Los Angeles dropped to 8-14 overall and 4-8 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Timberwolves are 5-15-2 ATS in their last 22 games against a team with a losing record, 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games against a team with a losing home record and 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall. Meanwhile, the Clippers are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings, the road team is 25-8-1 ATS in the last 34 meetings and the Timberwolves are 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Los Angeles.
The Clippers are in a major slump right now as they deal with injuries and the eventual trade of Jordan, but they were right there with the Timberwolves on Sunday before Butler took over in the fourth quarter. The Timberwolves are deserved favorites in this matchup, but the Clippers haven't played since Sunday and I'm expecting them to really come out looking for revenge in this one.
