The Miami Heat pay a visit to the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center on Friday night.
The Miami Heat have lost five of their last eight games and they will be hoping to bounce back after falling to the Trailblazers in a 102-95 home loss on Wednesday. Wayne Ellington drained seven three-pointers on his way to a career-high 24 points, Dion Waiters added 17 points while five more players finished in double figures. As a team, the Heat shot 47 percent from the field and 13 of 30 from the three-point line as they jumped out to lead by as many as 16 points in the second half, but they were unable to hold on as the Trailblazers dominated the fourth quarter by 32-16 to run away the game thanks to Damian Lillard who scored seven of his 18 points in the final 3:16 of the game. With the loss, Miami dropped to 13-14 on the season and 5-7 at home.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have lost eight of their last 10 games and they will take any win they can get after getting blown out by the Rockets in a 108-96 loss on Wednesday. Dwight Howard had a big night of 26 points with 18 rebounds, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist added 18 points with 11 rebounds while Kemba Walker chipped in with just 13 points. As a team, the Hornets shot 41 percent from the field and four of 21 from the three-point line but this game was actually over before the fourth quarter as the Hornets were always trailing by as many as 26 points in the second quarter. With the loss, Charlotte dropped to 10-17 overall and 2-11 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Heat are 14-6 ATS in their last 20 road games against a team with a winning road record and 4-12-1 ATS in their last 17 against the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, the Hornets are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games, 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games against a team with a losing record and 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine games overall.
Head to head, the favorite is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings, the under is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings and the Heat are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings.
Both the Heat and the Hornets could really do with a win as neither team have been winning much lately. The Heat have been the more consistent team and they will really be kicking themselves after blowing Wednesday’s game against the Trailblazers, but the Hornets have won eight of 14 home games this season. I like the Hornets to get the win at home, but I think the value is with the Heat and the points as I have this one going down to the wire.
