The Minnesota Timberwolves have lost four of their last seven games but they will be aiming for a third straight victory after taking down the Pelicans in a 118-107 home win on Saturday. Jimmy Butler led the team with 30 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, Karl-Anthony Towns added 22 points with 16 rebounds while Andrew Wiggins and Tyler Jones chipped in with 15 points each. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 50 percent from the field and 10 of 21 from the three-point line as they set the pace with 37 points in the first quarter to lead by 66-53 at halftime. With the win, Minnesota improved to 34-22 overall and 22-6 at home where they’ve now won 12 in a row.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers have lost five of their last eight games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after last night’s 116-98 road loss at Orlando. LeBron James led the way with 25 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, Tristan Thompson and JR Smith added 12 points each while Isaiah Thomas chipped in with 11 points and eight assists. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 43 percent from the field and 12 of 37 from the three-point line but after pouring in 44 points in the first quarter, they fell to pieces in the second half where they were outscored by 65-31. Once again, the Cavaliers continue to struggle on the defensive end but they never looked as bad as they did in the fourth quarter where they managed just nine points. With the loss, Cleveland dropped to 30-22 overall and 11-15 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Timberwolves are 2-7 ATS in their last nine road games, 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers are 16-35-2 ATS in their last 53 home games, 1-9 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record and 14-36-1 ATS in their last 51 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-0 in the last five meetings, the favorite is 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings and the Timberwolves are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings.
The Cavaliers are just in a world of hurt at the moment as they’re coming off a loss to the Magic in a game where they led by 17 points at halftime. The Timberwolves haven’t been at their best lately, but they’ve reeled off a couple of nice wins and they should be more than good enough to take advantage of this struggling Cavaliers team who will be playing on zero days’ rest.
