The New Orleans Pelicans play host to the Los Angeles Lakers at the Smoothie King Center on Wednesday.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been in great form as they’ve won eight of their past 11 games but they will be aiming to bounce back after having their four-game win streak snapped by the Mavericks in a 130-123 road loss on Saturday. Julius Randle led the team with 26 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, Brandon Ingram and Isaiah Thomas each scored 22 points while Brook Lopez chipped in with 16 points and five assists. As a team, the Lakers shot 54 percent from the field and 16 of 34 from the three-point line but it still wasn’t enough to get past the Mavericks who closed the final 3:09 of the fourth quarter with a decisive 13-5 run to come out on top. With the loss, Los Angeles dropped to 23-32 overall and 9-18 on the road.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans have been in a bit of a slump as they’ve lost five of their last eight games but they will be gunning for a third straight victory after making light work of the Pistons in a 118-103 road win on Monday. Anthony Davis led the team with 38 points and 10 rebounds, Jrue Holiday added 21 points with 12 assists while Nikola Mirotic chipped in with 21 points and 12 rebounds. As a team, the Pelicans shot 44 percent from the field and 14 of 34 from the three-point line as they made their run in the third quarter to lead by as many as 17 points. With the win, New Orleans improved to 30-26 overall and 16-14 on the road where they have won two straight and four of their last six.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record, 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games following a loss and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. Meanwhile, the Pelicans are 1-5 ATS in their last six home games, 0-8 ATS in their last eight home games against a team with a losing road record and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a win of more than 10 points.
Head to head, the favorite is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings and the road team is 30-14 ATS in the last 44 meetings.
The Pelicans are building a bit of momentum with Davis back to putting up monster numbers, but the Lakers have been in great form and they will be feeling pretty optimistic as Thomas looked pretty good in his debut game. These two teams have already met once this season with the Lakers winning by 119-112 back on Oct 22, so while plenty has changed since then, I’m expecting a similar result as the Lakers come out on top in a minor upset.
