The Phoenix Suns and the Memphis Grizzlies do battle at the FedExForum on Wednesday night.
The Phoenix Suns have been in a real slump lately as they’ve lost 15 of their last 16 games and they will be hoping to snap an ugly 10-game losing streak after falling to the Pelicans in a 125-116 road loss on Monday. Devin Booker led the team with 40 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, TJ Warren added 23 points while Josh Jackson finished with a double-double of 20 points with 12 rebounds off the bench. As a team, the Suns shot 43 percent from the field and seven of 24 from the three-point line but despite getting off to a hot start with 36 points in the first quarter, the Suns couldn’t hang with the Pelicans who were led by 53 points from Anthony Davis. With the loss, Phoenix dropped to 18-44 overall and 9-21 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies have been going through their own struggles as they’ve lost 12 of their last 13 games and they will be looking to put a halt to a 10-game skid after Monday’s 109-98 loss at Boston. JaMychal Green led the team with 21 points and 11 rebounds, Marc Gasol added 17 points with eight rebounds and eight assists while Andrew Harrison chipped in with 14 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. As a team, the Grizzlies shot 43 percent from the field and a miserable five of 23 from the three-point line as they just had no answer for the Celtics who dominated the first half and outscored them by 67-41 to put the game out of reach early. With the loss, Memphis dropped to 18-41 overall and 5-23 on the road where they have lost 10 in a row.
Looking at the betting trends, the Suns are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games, 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games against a team below .400 and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games overall. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a losing record, 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games following a loss of more than 10 points and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the home team is 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings, the Suns are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and 2-6 ATS in the last eight meetings in Memphis.
The Suns have won two of three meetings this season but it was the Grizzlies who won the most recent encounter, a 120-109 back on Jan 29 behind 7 points from Tyreke Evans who will miss his third straight game with a rib injury. You really couldn’t put your money on either team and expect a return given the form of these two teams, but the home team has covered in each of the last five meetings so I’m leaning towards the Grizzlies to get the job done in this one.
