The New Orleans Pelicans pay a visit to the American Airlines Center to take on the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night.
The New Orleans Pelicans have been in great form lately and they will be looking to build on their seven-game win streak after sneaking past the Spurs in a 121-116 road win on Wednesday. Anthony Davis continued his stellar form with 26 points and 15 rebounds, Jrue Holiday added 25 points on 11 of 18 shooting while E’Twaun Moore chipped in with 17 points. As a team, the Pelicans shot 50 percent from the field and nine of 26 from the three-point line as they hung around with the Spurs until the fourth quarter where they outscored them by 34-21 to come away with the unlikely win to improve to 35-26 overall and 18-14 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have been in a real slump as they’ve lost 13 of their last 16 games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight loss after falling to the Bulls in a 108-101 road loss on Friday. Harrison Barnes led the team with 26 points, Dennis Smith Jr. added 25 points while Dirk Nowitzki chimed in with 18 points but no other player scored more than eight points. As a team, the Mavericks shot 41 percent from the field as they seemingly had control of the game until the fourth quarter where they were outscored by 30-15. With the disappointing loss, Dallas dropped to 19-44 overall and 7-24 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pelicans are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games, 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall. Meanwhile, the Mavericks are 14-5 ATS in their last 19 games following a loss and 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 games against a team with a winning record.
Head to head, the under is 20-8 in the last 28 meetings in Dallas and the Pelicans are 2-5 ATS in their last seven meetings.
The Pelicans are currently one of the hottest teams in the league behind the stellar play of Holiday and Davis. The Mavericks just haven’t been able to buy a win these days and they just looked dreadful in their loss to the Bulls on Friday. The Pelicans have covered in each of their last four road games and I think they make it five with a win and cover here.
