The Washington Wizards pay a visit to the TD Garden to duke it out with the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night.
The Washington Wizards have been in a bit of a slump lately as they’ve lost five of their last seven games and they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after falling to the Timberwolves in a 116-111 home loss last night. Markieff Morris led the team with 27 points on 10 of 15 shooting, Bradley Beal added 19 points with five assists while Tomas Satoransky chipped in with 15 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. As a team, the Wizards shot 51 percent from the field and eight of 20 from the three-point line as they looked to be getting the better of the Timberwolves to lead by eight points after three quarters. However, things unravelled in the fourth quarter where they were outscored by 34-21 as they couldn’t contain Karl-Anthony Towns who poured in 37 points on 13 of 17 shooting. With the loss, Washington dropped to 38-30 overall which is currently good for fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have been in great form as they’ve won six of their last eight games but they will be looking to bounce back after falling to the Pacers in a 99-97 home loss on Sunday. Marcus Smart led the team with 20 points and eight assists, Jayson Tatum added 19 points while Terry Rozier chipped in with 16 points off the bench. As a team, the Celtics shot 42 percent from the field and 12 of 37 from the three-point line as they worked their way to a 10-point lead at halftime, but Kyrie Irving decided to sit out the rest of the game with knee soreness after scoring just seven points. The Celtics fought hard to stay in the game but just couldn’t get over the line as the Pacers turned the game with a 34-20 third quarter. With the loss, Boston dropped to 46-21 overall and 23-12 at home. Al Horford is questionable with an illness, Jaylen Brown remains out with concussion, Daniel Theis is out with a knee injury while Marcus Smart is still dealing with that thumb injury.
Looking at the betting trends, the Wizards are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games, 1-5 ATS in their last six games playing on zero days’ rest and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games overall. Meanwhile, the Celtics are 1-5 ATS in their last six home games, 4-0 ATS in their last four home games against a team with a winning road record and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the home team is 10-3 ATS in the last 13 meetings and the over is 5-1 in the last six meetings. The Wizards are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall and 1-9 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Boston.
The Wizards have just been struggling over the last couple of weeks and they will be kicking themselves after letting last night’s game slip out of their hands. Meanwhile, the Celtics have been playing great basketball lately but the injuries just keep piling up which has to affect them sooner or later. I’m tempted to take the Wizards in this spot, but they’re playing on zero days’ rest and the losses are starting to pile up, so I’m going with the shorthanded Celtics to stay hot with an important home win to stay in the race for that top seed in the Eastern Conference.
