The Los Angeles Lakers play host to the Miami Heat at the STAPLES Center on Friday night.
The Miami Heat have won six of their past 10 games but they will be looking to avoid a third straight loss after falling to the Kings in a 123-119 overtime road loss on Wednesday. Goran Dragic led the team with 33 points on 11 of 21 shooting, Wayne Ellington added 22 points off the bench, James Johnson racked up 18 points with 10 rebounds and seven assists while Tyler Johnson chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Heat shot just 41 percent from the field but they shot a sizzling 18 of 43 from the three-point line as they rallied back a 16-point fourth quarter deficit, only to lose in overtime. With the loss, Miami dropped to 36-33 overall and 16-20 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have been in great form as they’ve won eight of their past 11 games but they will be aiming to bounce back after falling to the shorthanded Warriors in a 117-106 road loss on Wednesday. Julius Randle led the team with 22 points on eight of 10 shooting before fouling out in the fourth quarter, Brook Lopez added 20 points with five blocks while Isaiah Thomas chipped in with 20 points and seven assists. As a team, the Lakers shot 45 percent from the field and 12 of 37 from the three-point line but they couldn’t hang with the Warriors in the second half where they were outscored by 62-51. Kyle Kuzma sat out the game because of a sprained right ankle and is listed as questionable for Friday.
Looking at the betting trends, the Heat are 36-17-1 ATS in their last 54 road games, 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following a loss and 9-3-2 ATS in their last 14 games overall. Meanwhile, the Lakers are 11-2 ATS in their last 13 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a loss of more than 10 points.
Head to head, the under is 6-1 in the last seven meetings in Los Angeles, the home team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings and the underdog is 13-6 ATS in the last 19 meetings.
The Lakers will likely be without Kuzma again which obviously hurts but they’ve been great basketball lately, especially at home where they’ve won three straight and 12 of their last 13. The Heat haven’t been too bad lately, but they will be kicking themselves after losing to the lowly Kings in their last outing so they’ll be eager to bounce back with a road win to stay in the race for the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. This one could go either way, but the Lakers have been on fire at home lately and they’ve already beaten the Heat by 131-113 back on Mar 1, so I’m sticking with the home team in this one.
