The Charlotte Hornets pay a visit to Madison Square Garden to battle the New York Knicks on Saturday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in a bit of a slump lately as they’ve lost six of their past eight games but they will be looking to build on Thursday’s 129-117 win at Atlanta, their second win in three outings. Dwight Howard led the team with 33 points and 13 of 20 shooting, Kemba Walker added 24 points with eight assists, Marvin Williams scored 17 points while Nicolas Batum racked up a triple-double of 10 points with 10 rebounds and a career-high 16 assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 53 percent from the field and 17 of 33 from the three-point line as they dominated the Hawks to lead by as many as 23 points midway through the fourth quarter. With the easy win, Charlotte improved to 30-39 overall which is currently good for 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks have been struggling mightily as they have lost 17 of their last 18 games and they will be looking to snap a nine-game skid after falling to the 76ers in a 118-110 home loss on Thursday. Michael Beasley led the team with 24 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists, Courtney Lee and Trey Burke each scored 16 points while Kyle O’Quinn chipped in with 15 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. As a team, the Knicks shot 51 percent from the field and a miserable five of 20 from the three-point line but they were actually leading by six points midway through the fourth quarter until the 76ers closed the game on a 20-6 run to snatch the game from them. With the loss, New York fell to 24-45 overall and 16-17 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a win and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games following a win of more than 10 points. Meanwhile, the Knicks are 1-7 ATS in their last eight home games, 2-7 ATS in their last nine home games against a team with a losing road record and 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 16-4-1 in the last 21 meetings in New York, the Hornets are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall and 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in New York.
Neither team has much to play for at this stage of the season, so while I’m tempted to take the Knicks with the free points, I just can’t bring myself to pull the trigger as they’ve lost an astounding 17 of their last 18 games. The Hornets haven’t exactly been setting the world on fire with their play but at least they looked good in their win over the Hawks on Thursday. The Knicks have only covered in three of their last 16 games overall and I think that trend continues as the Hornets pull away late for the win and cover.
