The New Orleans Pelicans and the Houston Rockets duke it out at the Toyota Center on Saturday night.
The New Orleans Pelicans have been in pretty strong form lately as they're coming into this game looking for a fifth straight win after sneaking past the Lakers in a 128-125 home win on Thursday. Anthony Davis led the team with 33 points on 12 of 20 shooting, Jrue Holiday added 26 points with six assists while Rajon Rondo added 24 points with 10 assists. As a team, the Pelicans shot 54 percent from the field and six of 24 from the three-point line as they looked to be down and out until the fourth quarter where they outscored the Lakers by 31-17 to overcome an 11-point deficit. With the win, New Orleans improved to 43-30 overall which is currently good for fourth place in the Western Conference standings.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets have been on an absolute tear for a long time now as they've won 24 of their last 25 games and they will be gunning for an eighth straight win after taking down the Pistons in a 100-96 overtime win on Thursday. Eric Gordon led the team with 22 points and five assists, James Harden shot just four of 20 from the field but finished with 21 points and five assists while Joe Johnson chipped in with 11 points off the bench. As a team, the Rockets shot just 35 percent from the field and 12 of 51 from the three-point line but they still managed to scrap their way to an ugly win behind Harden's 10 points in the overtime period. With the scrappy win, Houston improved to 58-14 overall which has them sitting pretty atop the Western Conference standings.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pelicans are 7-1 ATS in their last eight road games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team above .600 and 5-0 ATS in their last five games overall. Meanwhile, the Rockets are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 games against a team with a winning record, 3-8 ATS in their last 11 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the home team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings, the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Houston and the Pelicans are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings.
The Rockets lead the season series by 2-1 but each of the three games have been decided by seven points or less. The Pelicans have really been playing well as they've collected wins over the Celtics and the Pacers during this wins streak, so while I don't have them winning this game, I think they do enough to get the cover.
