The Houston Rockets and the San Antonio Spurs do battle at the AT&T Center on Sunday night.
The Houston Rockets have now won 28 of their last 29 games and they will be gunning for a 12th straight win after sneaking past the Suns in a 104-103 home win on Friday. James Harden led the team with 28 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists, PJ Tucker added 18 points while Joe Johnson chipped in with 16 points but with the game on the line, the ball went to Gerald Green who drilled the game-winning three at the buzzer to finish with 15 points. As a team, the Rockets started the game ice-cold and finished shooting just 43 percent from the field but they showed grit to claw their way back from a 21-point deficit in the second half. With the win, Houston improved to 62-14 overall which doesn’t matter too much because they’ve already clinched the top seed for the first time in franchise history.

Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have been in fine form as they’ve won seven of their last nine games and they will be looking to stay hot after sneaking past the Thunder in a 103-99 win on Thursday. LaMarcus Aldridge led the team with 25 points and 11 rebounds, Patty Mills added 14 points while Danny Green chipped in with 11 points. As a team, the Spurs shot just 42 percent from the field and 13 of 31 from the three-point line but it was their defense that saved the day, particularly in the fourth quarter where they held the Thunder to just 18 points. With the much-needed win, San Antonio improved to 44-32 overall which is good for fourth place in the Western Conference standings.
Looking at the betting trends, the Rockets are 4-0 ATS in their last four Sunday games, 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games and 14-5 ATS in their last 19 games against a team with a winning record. Meanwhile, the Spurs are 7-0 ATS in their last seven home games, 6-2 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 10-4 ATS in the last 14 meetings overall, the Rockets are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings overall and 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in San Antonio.
It’s no secret that the Rockets are the hottest team in the league in the moment and their confidence will be boosted by their comeback win over the Suns. However, the Rockets really have little to play for now that they’ve clinched home-court advantage in the playoffs so this could be a good spot for the consistent Spurs who really need this win to stay in fourth place in the Western standings. I’m tempted to go with the Rockets in their current form, but I’ll side with the Spurs at home as a win here would mean so much more to them.
