The Memphis Grizzlies pay a visit to the Smoothie King Center to battle the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night.
The Memphis Grizzlies have been in real slump for a long time now as they’ve lost 25 of their last 28 games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after falling to the Trailblazers in a 113-98 road loss on Sunday. Dillon Brooks led the team with 28 points and four assists, Wayne Selden added 17 points while Ben McLemore chipped in with 13 points off the bench. As a team, the Grizzlies shot 45 percent from the field and nine of 21 from the three-point line as they really took it to the Trailblazers in a tightly contested first half before allowing the game to slip out of their hands in the third quarter where they were outscored by 43-24. Marc Gasol scored seven points but played just 20 minutes, Chandler Parsons was rested for this game while JaMychal Green sat out with knee soreness. With the loss, Memphis dropped to 21-56 overall and 6-32 on the road.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans have really cooled off since their four-game win streak as they’ve now lost four in a row after falling to the Thunder in a 109-104 home loss on Sunday. Anthony Davis led the team with 25 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, Ian Clark added 16 points off the bench, Jrue Holiday scored 12 points with eight assists and five steals while Rajon Rondo chipped in with 11 points, eight rebounds and nine assists. As a team, the Pelicans shot 45 percent from the field and 11 of 32 from the three-point line but there was just no stopping the Thunder’s Russell Westbrook who dominated the game with a triple-double of 26 points with 15 rebounds and 13 assists. With the loss, New Orleans dropped to 43-34 overall which is currently good for eighth place in the Western Conference standings.
Looking at the betting trends, the Grizzlies are 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record, 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games following a loss and 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall. Meanwhile, the Pelicans are 8-1 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a losing record, 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games and 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall.
Head to head, the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings, the Grizzlies are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in New Orleans and 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings overall.
The Grizzlies haven’t been able to buy a win lately as the injuries just keep piling up and you can’t expect heavy minutes from the remaining healthy players as they’re surely looking towards the upcoming NBA draft. The Pelicans haven’t exactly been setting the world on fire but they’re the much healthier and more talented team with so much more to play for given their precarious position in the standings. With the Grizzlies so shorthanded, I think the Pelicans get the job done with a big win at home in this one.
