The Dallas Mavericks and the Orlando Magic duke it out at the Amway Center on Wednesday night.
The Dallas Mavericks have been in a real slump lately as they’ve lost eight of their last 10 games but they will be feeling pretty good after snapping a three-game skid with last night’s 115-109 win over the Trailblazers. Dennis Smith Jr. led the team with 18 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, Yogi Ferrell, JJ Barea and Harrison Barnes each scored 15 points while Dirk Nowitzki chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot 45 percent from the field and 17 of 44 from the three-point line as they showed plenty of grit to avoid getting swept by the Trailblazers who had already beaten them twice this season. With the upset win, Dallas improved to 25-54 overall and 15-25 at home.

Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic have been in rough shape as they’ve lost 11 of their last 14 games but they too will be feeling good after snapping a three-game losing streak with last night’s 97-73 win at New York. Mario Hezonja led the team with 19 points, Jamel Artis added 16 points off the bench while Shelvin Mack chipped in with 12 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. As a team, the Magic shot just 42 percent from the field but they dominated the hapless Knicks by 51-28 in the second half to make it look easy after a tightly contested first half. Defensively, the Magic held the Knicks to just 34 percent shooting from the field and four of 27 shooting from the three-point line. With the win, Orlando improved to 23-54 overall and 8-31 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Mavericks are 10-23 ATS in their last 33 games against a team with a losing record, 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 road games against a team with a losing home record. Meanwhile, the Magic are 6-0 ATS in their last six games playing on zero days’ rest, 0-4 ATS in their last four home games and 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the home team is 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings, the Mavericks are 9-3 ATS in the last 12 meetings overall and 9-2 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Orlando.
It’s been tough picking the Mavericks as they’ve been struggling lately, but you always get glimpses of how good they can be when they go out and beat teams like the Trailblazers. The Magic have probably been in worse form lately but they will be confident following their big win over the Knicks last night. You could make an argument for either side here, but the Mavericks are 9-3 ATS in the last 12 meetings and 9-2 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Orlando. I think those trends continue as the Mavericks come away with the narrow road win here.
