The Oklahoma City Thunder invade the Staples Center to take on the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night.
The Oklahoma City Thunder will be gunning for their first win of the season after falling short against the Warriors in a 108-100 road loss on Tuesday. Paul George led the way with a team-high 27 points, five assists and four steals, Dennis Schroder looked great in his debut as he finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists while Steven Adams chipped in with 17 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Thunder shot just 36 percent from the field and 10 of 37 from the three-point line which would usually mean a blowout loss for teams playing against the Warriors, but the Thunder did a nice job of hanging around and they actually took the lead in the third quarter before the Warriors rallied. Russell Westbrook sat out the game on Tuesday and is listed as out for Friday as he continues to recover from the knee surgery he had last month.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers are also searching for their first win of the season as they come into this game fresh off a 107-98 home loss to the Nuggets. Tobias Harris led the team in scoring with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Boban Marjanovic added 18 points in just 18 minutes off the bench while Danilo Gallinari chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Clippers shot 40 percent from the field and eight of 28 from the three-point line but they actually led by 92-84 with just 5:14 left in the fourth quarter before the Nuggets closed the game on a 23-6 run to steal the game from under them.
Looking at the betting trends, the Thunder are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games, 4-10 ATS in their last 14 road games against a team with a losing home record and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games playing on two days rest. The Clippers are 0-4 ATS in their last four home games, 0-5 ATS in their last five against the Eastern Conference and 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a loss.
Head to head, the home team is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings, the Thunder are 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Los Angeles.
The Thunder didn’t look too bad in their road loss to the defending champs on Tuesday, but once again they will be without their leader in Westbrook. The Clippers will still be hurting from their home loss to the Nuggets especially because they had a nice lead late in the fourth quarter but a win here would fix all that. However, the Clippers lost all three meetings against the Thunder last season so even with Westbrook sitting out, they’re not a sure bet. With that being said, I’m leaning towards the Thunder to get the job done with George and Schroder in coin flip.
