The New Orleans Pelicans play host to the Brooklyn Nets at the Smoothie King Center on Friday night.
The Brooklyn Nets have won two of their first four games of the season and they will be looking for a second straight win after beating the Cavaliers by 102-86 on Wednesday. De’Angelo Russell led the team with 18 points and eight assists, Joe Harris added 16 points while Jared Dudley chipped in with 12 points. As a team, the Nets shot 45 percent from the field and 14 of 34 from the three-point line but this win was set up in the third quarter where the Nets outscored the Cavaliers by 38-17 to lead by 21 going into the fourth.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans have hit the ground running and they will be aiming for a fourth straight win after beating the Clippers in a 116-109 home win on Tuesday. Anthony Davis led the team with 34 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks, Elfrid Payton added 20 points with six assists while Nikola Mirotic and Julius Randle each scored 18 points. As a team, the Pelicans shot 43 percent from the field and just six of 24 from the three-point line but they made up for it with their defense as they held the Clippers to just five of 20 shooting from the three-point line.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nets are 37-18 ATS in their last 55 road games and 7-1 ATS in their last eight games following a win of more than 10 points. The Pelicans are 7-1 ATS in their last eight home games, 5-0 ATS in their last five games playing on two days rest and 20-6 ATS in their last 26 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 21-6 in the last 27 meetings, the road team is 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings and the Nets are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings.
The Nets have been playing a little better than I expected and they’re coming into this game fresh off a dominant win over the struggling Cavaliers but the Pelicans are still undefeated after three games and they’ve covered in seven of their last eight home games. I think the Nets play well enough to keep this game close for three quarters but the Pelicans have won and covered in each of their first three games so far and I think they make it four in this one.
