Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Los Angeles Lakers - 10/29/18 NBA Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers could really do with a win after having their two-game win streak snapped by the Spurs in a 110-106 road loss on Saturday. LeBron James led the team with 35 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, Kyle Kuzma added 15 points while Lance Stephenson chipped in with 14 points off the bench. As a team, the Lakers shot 47 percent from the field and 13 of 33 from the three-point line as they looked to have the measure of the Spurs in the first half, but they couldn’t find their flow on offense in the second half where they were outscored by 56-46. The Lakers’ guard play just wasn’t there as Rajon Rondo, Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart all had off nights and no one could slow the Spurs’ DeMar DeRozan who scored 30 points with eight assists.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves would take any win they can get as they’re now hoping to avoid a third straight defeat following a 125-95 home loss to the Bucks on Friday. Karl-Anthony Towns led the team in scoring with 16 points, Derrick Rose added 14 points off the bench while Tyus Jones chipped in with 12 points. Jimmy Butler and Jeff Teague added just four points each as the Timberwolves shot a miserable 32 percent from the field and 10 of 43 from the three-point line but their biggest problem was on the defensive end as they just had no chance of coming back after trailing by 63-38 at halftime.

Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 13-6 ATS in their last 19 games against a team with a losing record and 0-4 ATS in their last four Monday games. The Timberwolves are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games overall, 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a losing record and 0-4 ATS in their last four against the Western Conference.

Head to head, the over is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings and the Lakers are 14-6 ATS in the last 20 meetings in Minnesota.

The Lakers have been more than competitive in each of their games this season, even in the games that they lost and you can’t say the same for the Timberwolves who are coming off their biggest loss so far. A win for the Timberwolves would steady the ship in what has already been a rocky season but the Lakers do hold the significant edge when you look at the betting trends. This could go either way as neither team plays much defense, but I’m leaning towards LeBron and the Lakers to sneak away with the narrow win here.
