Two Eastern Conference giants collide as the Milwaukee Bucks battle the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden on Thursday.
The Milwaukee Bucks look to stay undefeated on the season as they go for an eight straight win after Monday’s 124-109 home win over the Raptors. Ersan Ilyasova led the team with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Eric Bledsoe and Malcolm Brogdon each scored 17 points but it was a real balanced scoring effort as the Bucks actually had seven players finish in double figures. As a team, the Bucks shot 49 percent from the field and 19 of 45 from the three-point line as they picked up the slack without their leader in Giannis Antetokounmpo who was rested for the match, but it has to be noted that the Raptors were without their leading scorer in Kawhi Leonard.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics will be gunning for a fourth straight win after sneaking past the Pistons in a 108-105 home win on Tuesday. Kyrie Irving hasn’t had the best start to the season, but he broke out of his scoring slump with 31 points on 10 of 16 shooting, Jayson Tatum added 16 points while Marcus Morris chipped in with 15 points off the bench. As a team, the Celtics shot 44 percent from the field and nine of 31 from the three-point line as they dominated the third quarter by 25-12 before holding on late in the game as the Pistons rallied.
Looking at the betting trends, the Bucks are 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games, 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight games playing on two days rest and 5-0-1 AT S in their last six games overall. The Celtics are 17-5 ATS in their last 22 home games, 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a win and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record.
Head to head, the home team is 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings, the Bucks are 2-8 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall and 0-5 ATS in the last five meetings in Boston.
Antetokounmpo returns for the Bucks who will look to remain as the league’s last undefeated team but they’re up against a fully loaded Celtics team who have won three straight. The Bucks will be high on confidence coming into this one especially as they’ve already beaten quality teams like the Pacers, the 76ers and now the Raptors but the Celtics will be their biggest test so far. The betting trends favor the Celtics who have covered in each of the last five meetings in Boston, but they still like a work in progress at this early stage of the season so this could be a good spot for an upset. I’m taking the undefeated Bucks with the points in what should be a close one.
