The Utah Jazz were in a bit of a slump but it looks like they’re starting to turn the corner with three wins in their last four games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after sneaking past the Hornets in a 119-111 road win on Friday. Donovan Mitchell led the team with 30 points, six rebounds and six assists, Jae Crowder provided the spark off the bench with 24 points and seven assists while Rudy Gobert chipped in with 20 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks. As a team, the Jazz shot a healthy 54 percent from the field but what was the real difference between the teams was the 3-point shooting as the Jazz made 18 of 40 from the 3-point line. With the win, Utah improved to 11-12 overall and 9-6 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Miami Heat have been in a real slump as they’ve lost eight of their last 11 games but they were able to snap a two-game skid with a 106-101 home win over the Pelicans on Friday. Josh Richardson led the team with 20 points on eight of 22 shooting, Dwyane Wade added 18 points with six assists off the bench while Kelly Olynyk chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Heat shot just 43 percent from the field but their defense was on point as they forced the Pelicans into 16 turnovers and six of 28 shooting from the 3-point line. With the much-needed win, Miami improved to 8-13 overall and 4-8 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Jazz are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Sunday games, 7-15 ATS in their last 22 road games against a team with a losing home record and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against a team below .400. The Heat are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games following a win, 2-7 ATS in their last nine Sunday games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games.
Head to head, the road team is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings, the Jazz are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings in Miami.
These two teams have yet to meet this season but it’s fair to say that the Jazz are the team in better form as this stage of the season. The Heat pulled off a nice win over the Pelicans on Friday but the wins are just too few and far between. The Jazz are starting to build some momentum and they’ve covered in each of the last four meetings in Miami, so I’m sticking with the Jazz to finish with another win and cover in this one.
