The Miami Heat pay a visit to the Los Angeles Lakers at the STAPLES Center on Monday night.
The Miami Heat have been building some momentum with four wins in their last five games and they will be gunning for a third straight victory after blowing past the in-form Clippers in a 121-98 road win on Saturday. Dwyane Wade led the team with 25 points and six assists off the bench, Justise Winslow added 21 points with nine assists, James Johnson added 18 points while Kelly Olynyk chipped in with 15 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Heat shot 43 percent from the field and 13 of 39 from the 3-point line, but this win was all about defense, particularly in the fourth quarter where the Heat outscored the Clippers by 30-8 to run away with the win to improve to 11-14 on the season and 6-5 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have been in great form as they’ve won five of their last six games and they will be looking to stay hot after making light work of the Grizzlies in a 111-88 road win on Saturday. LeBron James led the team with 20 points, eight rebounds and nine assists, Kyle Kuzma added 20 points with nine rebounds and six assists while Josh Hart and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope each scored 16 points. As a team, the Lakers shot 43 percent from the field and 16 of 41 from the 3-point line and they never looked in danger after storming out of the gates to lead by 63-40 heading into halftime. With the easy win, Los Angeles improved to 16-10 on the season and 6-6 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Heat are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games, 2-9-3 ATS in their last 14 games following a win of more than 10 points and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Lakers are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four home games, 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the under is 7-1 in the last eight meetings in Los Angeles and the under is 12-5 in the last 17 meetings overall.
The Heat look to be turning the corner with four wins in their last five games and they are coming off an impressive win over the in-form Clippers, but the Lakers have been in great form themselves as they’re coming off a big win over the Grizzlies. Goran Dragic is expected to return to the court after being rested on Saturday but Hassan Whiteside has been listed as out which obviously hurts them. The Lakers beat the Heat by 113-97 in the team’s last meeting on Nov 18 and I think but with this likely being the last meeting between Wade and James, I think the Heat can bounce back and at least keep this one to single digits, so I’m taking the points in this one.
