Bonanza at Leon

Nicaraguan Basketball: Saturday, May 2, 2020 at 8:00 pm

The Line: Leon +1.5 -- Over/Under: 155.5

Bonanza and Leon meet Saturday night in Torneo Carlos Ulloa Nicaraguan basketball action.

Bonanza could use a victory here after splitting their last six games. Bonanza is averaging 70.4 points on 51 percent shooting and allowing 69.7 points on 52.9 percent shooting. Norvin Mairena is averaging 15.5 points, 1.1 steals and 5.2 rebounds while Aniel Hernandez is averaging 2.1 assists and 2.5 turnovers. William Talavera is averaging 0.3 blocks per game. Bonanza is shooting 35.4 percent from beyond the arc and 57.5 percent from the free throw line. Bonanza is allowing 31 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 31.1 rebounds per game.

Leon look for a spark of consistency after splitting their last 10 games. Leon is averaging 68.1 points on 52.1 percent shooting and allowing 70.5 points on 57.9 percent shooting. Carlos Valdivia Narvaez is averaging 15.7 points and 1.1 steals while Marcos Orozco Cruz is averaging six rebounds. Lester Zelaya is dishing 2.8 assists per game and 2.7 turnovers while Gerardo Amaya is averaging 0.4 blocks per game. Leon is shooting 39.7 percent from beyond the arc and 61.9 percent from the free throw line. Leon is allowing 29.6 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 42 rebounds per game.

There's no match history between these two teams.

Both of these teams have been hit or miss these last couple of weeks and you could make a case for either side here. I don't understand why Bonanza is the favorite in this spot given back-to-back losses and the fact they allowed a combined 193 points in their last two games. Leon have been rather consistent defensively as of late and seem to be in a lot of close games where points come in handy. While Bonanza is probably the better team and slightly more consistent, I have a hard time getting behind them in the favorite role based on their defensive struggles the last two games. Bonanza have allowed 90 or more points in each of their last four losses.

Give me Leon and the free bucket in a game that could come down to the wire.

Randy’s Pick Leon +1.5
