The Line: 97-98 Chicago Bulls +4.5 -- Over/Under: 222.5
The 12-13 Miami Heat and 97-98 Chicago Bulls meet Sunday afternoon in a NBA2K simulation game.
The 12-13 Miami Heat were ranked 82 overall with a 80 inside scoring rating and a 87 outside scoring rating. This Heat squad was led by arguably the best LeBron James we’ve ever seen, as he had a 98 overall rating with an 88 three point shot and a 89 driving dunk rating. Dwyane Wade was rated 92 overall with a 72 three point shot and 60 driving dunk rating. Chris Bosh had an 86 overall rating with a 79 rated three point shot. The Heat also had a ton of quality three point shooters in Ray Allen, Shane Battier and Rashard Lewis, three players who had outside shots rated in the high 80s. The 12-13 Miami Heat could score at a high level anywhere on the floor and they also had a defensive rating of 70, so this was a balanced squad that wasn’t really to be played with overall.
The 97-98 Chicago Bulls were ranked 80 overall with a 77 inside scoring rating and a 80 outside scoring rating. This is the Bulls team you’re watching on ESPN’s Last Dance, so it obviously goes as far as Michael Jordan carries it, as he’s ranked 98 overall with an 81 rated three point shot and a 80 driving dunk rating. Scottie Pippen brings in a 89 overall rating with a 77 three point shot and Dennis Rodman is rated 85 overall wit ha 65 driving dunk rating. The depth of the 97-98 Chicago Bulls comes with Ron Harper who is rated 79 overall and Toni Kukoc who is rated 78 overall with an 80 rated three point shot. We also can’t overlook Steve Kerr and his 90 rated three point shot. The 97-98 Chicago Bulls ratings kind of fall off after those handful of players, but there’s no denying they have a three-headed monster and sometimes that’s all you need to be effective in the video game world.
The 97-98 Chicago Bulls are quite popular now thanks to the ESPN doc, but the bottom line is they're not all that deep in highly rated players in this video game. MJ and Pippen is still a tremendous 1-2 punch and is good enough to hang around against anybody, but some of these other classic teams have a clear edge in depth and it's why they're often the favorites. The 12-13 Miami Heat are loaded with outside shooters and have one of the best LeBron's we've ever seen in real life or the video game world. This is also the Heat team that won 27 straight games, the second longest winning streak in NBA history.
I'll lay the reasonable chalk with the 12-13 Miami Heat.
