There have been some elite rebounds throughout NBA history who cleaned up on the defensive boards. Let’s take a look at the ten players who grabbed the most defensive rebounds during their careers.

10. Shaquille O’Neal – 8890 Rebounds

Shaquille O’Neal was a problem on the boards and when one went up, none of his teammates had to go up for it. During his rookie season he averaged 9.6 defensive rebounds per game.

9. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar – 9394 Rebounds

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played 20 seasons in the NBA,but for the first three seasons during his time offensive and defensive rebounds weren’t specified which hurts his numbers a lot in terms of total rebounds.

8. Moses Malone – 9481 Rebounds

Moses Malone’s best season was in 1978-79 when he grabbed 10.5 defensive rebounds per game. During that season he also grabbed 7.2 offensive rebounds per game.

7. Hakeem Olajuwon – 9714 Rebounds

Hakeem Olajuwon only averaged more than 10 defensive rebounds per game in one season but he often was over nine rebounds per game, which puts him all the way up at seven on the list.

The only active player on this list is Dwight Howard who comes in at number six, but if he plays a few more seasons he should continue to move up the list.

Most remember Dirk Nowitzki for his signature jump shot, but he was an elite rebounder, especially earlier in his career. Nowitzki’s best season was in 2002-03 when he grabbed 9.9 rebounds per game. He also scored over 25 points a game during that season.

4. Robert Parish – 10,117 Rebounds

Robert Parish played most of his career with the Boston Celtics grabbing 10,117 rebounds during his career. Four seasons in a item, Parish averaged over seven rebounds per game in eight seasons.

3.Tim Duncan – 11,232 Rebounds

Tim Duncan was a 15-time All-Star and a big reason is because of his rebounding. Each of the first nine seasons, Duncan averaged at least eight rebounds per game.

2.Karl Malone – 11,406 Rebounds

Karl “The Mailman” Malone averaged 7.7 defensive rebounds per game. He wasn’t as much of as an offensive rebounder as some of the other players on this list, he was an elite defensive rebounder.

1. Kevin Garnett – 11,453 Rebounds

Kevin Garnett always made it a personal goal to grab every rebound, and there were a lot of games where it seemed like he did that. Garnett’s best season came in 2003-04 when he averaged 10.9 defensive rebounds per game.
