New-Look Gasol - In the wake of all the talk about the Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic’s new slimmed-down frame, we’ve got another notable NBA name who will be coming into the renewed season at a much lighter weight than before in Marc Gasol.

Raptors head coach Nick Nurse told reporters a few weeks ago that Gasol looked like he’d slimmed down during lockdown (judging by Zoom calls anyway), and now we’ve got proof. A photo is circulating right now which features a near-unrecognizable Gasol looking like he’s lost a significant amount of weight. Gasol had some hamstring issues this year which caused him to miss 28 games for the Raptors, but he was all healed up prior to the stoppage in March. With the new lean body it remains to be seen how Gasol will look on the court, but the weight loss should completely transform his game. He is averaging 7.6 PPG and 6.3 RPG in 36 outings for the Raptors, who have the second-best record in the Eastern Conference right now.

Players Union Virus Spike Statement - There’s been a recent spike of coronavirus cases in Florida, which is understandable but also doesn’t bode all that well for a league trying to resume games in Orlando. The NBA Players Association held a virtual town hall to discuss the spike, and seemed cautiously optimistic that basketball games would proceed as planned.

As of now, the general virus testing plans for Disney World staff while the NBA games occur isn’t quite clear; it seems the league and players are leaving themselves some flexibility. Access to the Disney campus will be severely restricted however, and once the health/safety protocols are in place within a clean environment there should be no issue in theory. That said, considering this is an unprecedented situation we’re sure to see plenty of fluid decisions, so we’ll keep you posted on the situation. As of now, it seems full steam ahead for the restart though.

NBA Draft Dates - Now that things are coming into focus regarding the NBA’s planned restart, we’re beginning to get some concrete dates and plans for other activities around the league. Perhaps the biggest off-the-court happening coming in the near future is the NBA Draft.

We’ve got a pretty good idea of how things will work there, as the league now has a pretty complete schedule for the festivities. The 2020 NBA Draft Lottery will be held on August 25, and the NBA Draft comes on October 16 (according to multiple reports, that is). That’ll be a pretty quick turnaround from the last NBA Finals game that could be played, which is October 13.

Once the season finishes up we’ll have a flurry of NBA stuff to keep us pacified, so things are looking promising. We’ll keep you posted in the daily updates in the meantime.
