The Manawatu Jets and Canterbury Rams meet Wednesday morning in New Zealand NBL basketball action at The Trusts Arena.
The Manawatu Jets look for another victory after winning four of their last six games. The Manawatu Jets is averaging 94.6 points on 56.4 percent shooting and allowing 85.7 points on 50 percent shooting. Jayden Bezzant is averaging 22.4 points, one block and 6.5 rebounds while Hyrum Harris is averaging 13.5 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 5.5 assists. The Manawatu Jets is shooting 34.3 percent from beyond the arc and 67.9 percent from the free throw line. The Manawatu Jets is allowing 28 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 43.6 rebounds per game.
The Canterbury Rams could use a feel good victory here to snap a six-game losing streak. The Canterbury Rams is averaging 94.4 points on 52.5 percent shooting and allowing 89.6 points on 54.7 percent shooting. Taylor Britt is averaging 23.7 points, four assists and 9.3 rebounds while Mason Whittaker is averaging 1.3 steals and one block. Benjamin Carlile-Smith is averaging two turnovers per game. The Canterbury Rams is shooting 39.2 percent from beyond the arc and 80.2 percent from the free throw line. The Canterbury Rams is allowing 26.8 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 38.8 rebounds per game.
The Canterbury Rams have won six of the last eight meetings against the Manawatu Jets, but the recent meeting a couple of weeks ago resulted in a 15-point win for the Jets.
The Canterbury Rams are just not a team worth getting behind during their six-game losing streak where the defense is getting rocked and has allowed 97 or more points in four of those games. The Manawatu Jets have topped 100 points in three of their last four games, which includes their most recent contest against the Auckland Huskies. We also have the most recent meeting between these teams earlier this month where the Manawatu Jets got whatever they wanted offensively and were only outscored in one of the four quarters. This doesn't feel like a good matchup for the Canterbury Rams in their current form.
I'll gladly lay the small chalk with the Manawatu Jets.
