The Brooklyn Nets and the San Antonio Spurs meet in an NBA preseason matchup from the NBA bubble in Orlando, Florida on Saturday afternoon.
The Brooklyn Nets will be out to rebound from a disappointing 99-68 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans to kick off their final stretch of the season in Orlando. Dzanan Musa led the Nets with 11 points including a 7 of 7 mark from the double line while Jarrett Allen, Caris LeVert and Rodions Kurucs each had 10 points to finish off the scoring in double digits for the Nets in defeat. Kurus had a pair of threes while shooting 4 of 8 from the floor while LeVert had 3 assists and Jarrett Allen shot an efficient 4 of 5 with 10 rebounds for the double-double. Chris Chiozza also added a team-high 4 assists as well in defeat. Brooklyn just got off to a slow start with 14 points in the first and found themselves down 21 at the half. The Nets won the 3rd quarter but were doubled up 28-14 in the 4th, leaving the Pelicans with the 31-point margin of victory.
The San Antonio Spurs on the other hand, enter this matchup on the heels of a 113-92 loss to Milwaukee in their opening preseason game. Lonnie Walker IV led the Spurs with 14 points on 5 of 10 shooting with a pair of threes while DeJounte Murray had 13 points on 6 of 12 shooting and Derrick White and Keldon Johnson each had 11 points to cap off the scoring in double figures for the Spurs. Jakob Poeltl had a team-high 7 rebounds while the aforementioned White dished out a team-high 5 assists. San Antonio hung around with the Bucks early, sitting with a tie game after the first, but then the Spurs were outscored in each of the next three quarters, allowing Milwaukee to break away and not look back, leaving San Antonio with the loss.
Neither of these teams are coming into the restart with anything close to a full-strength team. However, at least the Spurs still have DeRozan, Murray and a few other decent pieces, while the Nets barely have an NBA roster in Orlando right now. A line hasn’t been released yet but I think the Spurs picked up a solid win here.
