The Washington Wizards travel to the Target Center to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night.
The Washington Wizards have really been doing it tough so far as they’re now hoping to avoid a sixth straight loss to start the season after falling to the Bulls in a 133-130 loss last night. Bradley Beal led the team in scoring with 28 points, Thomas Bryant added 28 points on 10 of 11 shooting, Russell Westbrook racked up a triple-double of 22 points with 10 rebounds and 11 assists while Rui Hachimura chipped in with 17 points. As a team, the Wizards shot 50 percent from the field and 14 of 29 from the 3-point line as they got off to a hot start with 41 points in the first quarter, but they still couldn’t edge past the Bulls who were playing without their second best player in Lauri Markkanen.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves have split their first four games of the season and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting routed by the Clippers in a 124-101 road loss on Tuesday. D’Angelo Russell led the team with 22 points and four assists, Malik Beasley added 19 points while Ricky Rubio chipped in with 17 points. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 41 percent from the field and 13 of 38 from the 3-point line as they never recovered after allowing the Clippers to outscore them by 37-21 in the second quarter. The Timberwolves trailed by as many as 31 points before the Clippers rested their starters in the fourth quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Wizards are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games, 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games playing on zero days rest and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games overall. The Timberwolves are 16-35-1 ATS in their last 52 home games 4-0 ATS in their last four games playing on two days rest and 9-22 ATS in their last 31 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-0 in the last five meetings overall and the Wizards are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Minnesota.
The Wizards just haven't been able to get over the hump despite getting big games from Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook. The Timberwolves have cooled off since losing Karl-Anthony Towns to injury and they will be low on confidence following a tough loss to the red-hot Clippers on Tuesday. The Wizards are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Minnesota and they're long overdue for their first win of the season. This is definitely a game I'd rather stay away from, but if I had to pick, I'd lean towards the Wizards to finally earn their first win of the season against the shorthanded Timberwolves.
