The Los Angeles Lakers play host to the Denver Nuggets at the Staples Center on Thursday night.
The Denver Nuggets have been in great form lately as they’ve won six of their past seven games and because they had their game on Monday postponed, they haven’t played since their 128-117 win over the Jazz on Sunday. Nikola Jokic led the team with 47 points, 12 rebounds and five assists on 17 of 26 shooting, Will Barton added 18 points with six assists while Jamal Murray chipped in with 16 points and five assists. As a team, the Nuggets shot a healthy 54 percent from the field and 18 of 28 from the 3-point line as they dominated right from the start and exploded for 43 points in the first quarter, before pushing the lead out to 25 points going into halftime. Gary Harris suffered a thigh strain during the game and has been ruled out for Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have been in pretty good form themselves as they’ve won five of their past seven games and they will be aiming for a third straight win after outlasting the Hawks in a 107-99 road win on Monday. Anthony Davis led the team with 25 points on 10 of 14 shooting, LeBron James added 21 points with seven rebounds and nine assists, Montrezl Harrell scored 19 points off the bench while Dennis Schroder chipped in with 16 points against his former team. As a team, the Lakers shot 51 percent from the field and seven of 23 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in a bit of trouble when they trailed by six points late in the third quarter, but they were able to execute when it mattered most which was in the fourth quarter where they outscored the Hawks by 32-23 to win easily in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nuggets are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games, 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight games as an underdog and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Lakers are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the over is 24-8-2 in the last 34 meetings overall and the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Los Angeles.
We’re in for a great game as both teams are coming into this one with plenty of momentum as the Nuggets just destroyed the Trailblazers thanks to 47 points from Jokic, while the Lakers just took down the Hawks in a close one. The Lakers are deserved favorites at home, but this has all the makings of a close contest, so I’m taking any points I can get in this one. Give me the Nuggets with the points in a game they could win outright.
