The Portland Trailblazers play host to the Charlotte Hornets at the Moda Center on Monday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in decent shape lately as they’ve won six of their past 10 games and they will be looking to stay hot after last night’s 127-126 road win over the Kings. PJ Washington led the team with a career-high 42 points on 15 of 23 shooting, LaMelo Ball added 24 points with 12 assists while Malik Monk chipped in with 21 points and four assists off the bench. As a team, the Hornets shot 53 percent from the field and 11 of 30 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in trouble after falling behind by as many as 14 points in the third quarter, before rallying with 39 points in the fourth quarter to escape with the narrow win thanks to Monk who drained the game-winning free throws with just 1.4 seconds remaining.
Meanwhile, the Portland Trailblazers were one of the hottest teams in the league at the start of February as they won eight of their first nine games, but they’re suddenly riding a four-game losing streak after falling to the Lakers in a 102-93 road loss on Friday. Damian Lillard led the team with 35 points and seven assists, Gary Trent Jr. added 19 points while Enes Kanter chipped in with 11 points and 17 rebounds. As a team, the Trailblazers shot just 38 percent from the field and 11 of 37 from the 3-point line as they got off to a quick start and took the narrow lead into halftime, before going ice-cold in the second half where they managed just 36 points. Carmelo Anthony scored just points on two of seven shooting off the bench while Robert Covington scored just four points on one of eight shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 4-1 ATS in their last five games playing on zero days’ rest and 21-10-2 ATS in their last 33 games as an underdog. The Trailblazers are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 home games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 6-2-1 in the last nine meetings overall, the Hornets are 2-10 ATS in the last 12 meetings in Portland and the Hornets are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings overall.
The Hornets have been building nicely and they will be feeling good after last night’s thrilling escape against the Kings, while the Trailblazers have cooled off lately as they’re currently riding a four-game losing streak. This should be a close contest and the Hornets did look good in last night’s win, but the Trailblazers have lost four in a row, all against elite competition, so they’ll be eager to get back in the win column here. The Hornets are just 2-10 ATS in the last 12 meetings in Portland and I think that trend continues here as the Trailblazers get their much-needed win behind a big game from Lillard.
