The Boston Celtics pay a visit to the San Antonio Spurs at the AT&T Center on Friday night.
The Boston Celtics have been in decent form as they’ve won six of their past nine games, but they will be eager to bounce back here after getting blown out by the Nets in a 123-104 home loss on Wednesday. Marcus Smart led the team with 20 points and eight assists on six of 14 shooting, Jayson Tatum added 15 points, while Jaylen Brown chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Celtics shot just 37 percent from the field and 11 of 48 from the 3-point line as they fell behind by 13 points at halftime, before the Nets made another run to put the Celtics behind by as many as 29 points. Tatum shot just four of 16 from the field and one of nine from the 3-point line, Brown shot zero of eight from the 3-point line, while Dennis Schroder scored just 10 points on three of 10 shooting off the bench.
Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have really been struggling lately as they are now riding an ugly six-game losing streak after getting thrashed by the Hawks in a 124-106 home loss on Wednesday. Bryn Forbes led the team with 23 points on nine of 12 shooting off the bench, Dejounte Murray added 22 points with eight rebounds and 11 assists while Keldon Johnson and Jakob Poeltl each scored 15 points. As a team, the Spurs shot just 43 percent from the field and 12 of 33 from the 3-point line which wasn’t enough to hang with the Hawks as they fell behind by seven points at halftime, before the Hawks poured on 38 points in the third quarter to push the deficit to 21 points. Derrick White scored just seven points on three of 12 shooting while Lonnie Walker scored just five points on two of seven shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Celtics are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games, 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a loss and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games overall. Brown is listed as day to day while Josh Richardson is listed as questionable, so the Celtics could be shorthanded for this one. The Spurs have their own injuries as they could be without Devin Vassell and Doug McDermott. The Celtics didn’t look good in their blowout loss on Wednesday, but they are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 9-3 ATS in the last 12 meetings overall. This should be a close one, but I’m sticking with the Celtics to bounce back with a narrow win here.
