The New Orleans Pelicans invade the Staples Center to battle the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night.

The New Orleans Pelicans have been in a rut as they’ve lost five of their past eight games and they will be eager to bounce back after having their two-game win streak halted by the Jazz in a 127-105 road loss on Saturday. Jaxson Hayes led the team in scoring with 15 points in just eight minutes off the bench, Jonas Valanciunas added 12 points with 12 rebounds, Brandon Ingram scored 11 points while Nickeil Alexander-Walker chipped in with 10 points on two of 12 shooting. As a team, the Pelicans shot just 43 percent from the field and eight of 35 from the 3-point line as they struggled right from the start and fell behind by double-digits early after allowing 37 points in the first quarter, before getting blown out in the third quarter where the deficit grew to 40 points.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers have been in a rut as they’ve lost five of their past eight games and they will be hoping to bounce back in this one after getting routed by the red-hot Warriors in a 105-90 home loss last night. Paul George led the team with 30 points and five assists on 11 of 24 shooting while Marcus Morris and Eric Bledsoe each scored 13 points, but no other player scored more than eight points. As a team, the Clippers shot just 40 percent from the field and nine of 28 from the 3-point line as they scored just 18 points in the second quarter to fall behind by two points at halftime, before getting run off the court in the second half where the Warriors poured in 61 points to make it a blowout. Luke Kennard had a quiet night as he scored just five points on two of eight shooting in 34 minutes off the bench while Reggie Jackson finished scoreless on zero of five shooting.

Looking at the betting trends, the Pelicans are 1-8 ATS in their last nine road games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games against a team with a winning home record. The Clippers are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games playing on zero days’ rest, 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against a team below .400 and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.

Head to head, the Pelicans are 36-16 ATS in the last 52 meetings overall.

The Pelicans were coming to life with a couple of wins before getting trampled by the Jazz in a blowout loss on Saturday in a game where they trailed by as many as 40 points. The Clippers are also coming into this one fresh off a big loss last night, but the story could’ve been so different if George was able to get more support from his teammates. It’s tempting to take the Pelicans with the hefty start, but they are only 1-8 ATS in their last nine road games and I think that trend continues here as the Clippers roll at home.
