The Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons meet Wednesday in NBA action at the Little Caesars Arena. The Orlando Magic have won 4 of their last 5 regular season openers. The Detroit Pistons have won 3 of their last 5 regular season openers.

The Orlando Magic are coming off 22 wins and enter the second year under coach Jamahl Mosley. The Magic are a young team, with only one player on their roster over 28 years old. Paolo Banchero is the exciting young rookie while guys like Jalen Suggs, Franz Wagner, Mo Bamba and Wendell Carter Jr. hope to take that next step. Markelle Fultz is one of the vets oaths Magic roster at 24 years old, and he actually said he believes Orlando can be a top-four seed in the East. While you can respect the confidence, the Magic have a lot of showing and proving to do, as they’ve won a combined 43 games the last two years. Terrence Ross is the oldest player on this Magic team at 31 years old. The Magic have made the playoffs just twice since the 2012-13 season.

The Detroit Pistons won 23 games last year and enter the fifth season under coach Dwane Casey. The Pistons continue to try to take steps in the right direction as they create an exciting, young core. Cade Cunningham is coming off an impressive rookie season, while players such as Jaden Ivey and Saddiq Bey look promising. Marvin Bagley III is coming off possibly his best season, and he still has untapped potential, while the addition of Bojan Bogdanovic provides leadership and shotmaking. Throw in Killian Hayes, Hamidou Diallo and Isaiah Livers, and the Pistons have oodles of young talent. If these players can hit the ground running together, the Pistons are on the fast track to make some serious noise as early as next year.

The Magic are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Wednesday games and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Pistons are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Wednesday games and 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games overall. The under is 5-2 in Magic last 7 road games. The over is 4-0 in Pistons last 4 overall. The Magic are 1-5 ATS in the last 6 meetings in Detroit and 3-8 ATS in the last 11 meetings.

You can make a case for either of these teams, as they’re both young and in a position to prove themselves. I do believe the Detroit Pistons are the better team right now and have better depth overall. Being at home certainly doesn’t hurt the Pistons here. We’re not being asked to lay much. I’ll back the Pistons if forced to pick, but there are better options out there on a loaded Wednesday NBA card.
