The Oklahoma City Thunder play host to the Denver Nuggets at the Paycom Center on Thursday night.
The Denver Nuggets have been in fine form as they’ve won four of their first seven games overall, but they will be aiming to bounce back in this one after getting routed by the previously winless Lakers in a 121-110 road loss on Sunday. Nikola Jokic led the way with 23 points, 14 rebounds and six assists, Jamal Murray added a season-high 21 points, Aaron Gordon scored 18 points while Michael Porter Jr. tallied 17 points with nine rebounds. As a team, the Nuggets shot just 42 percent from the field and 15 of 40 from the 3-point line as they got off to a quick start to lead by 10 points early on, but it didn’t last, and they were always trailing after managing just 20 points in the second quarter. The Nuggets could’ve done with more scoring from their bench players and their defense could’ve been better as they were always reeling after leaking 38 points in the third quarter.
Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Thunder started their season with a three-game skid, but they are now aiming for a fifth straight victory after rallying past the Magic in a 116-108 home win on Tuesday. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the team with 34 points and six assists on 12 of 18 shooting, Aleksej Pokusevski added 16 points, nine rebounds and three blocks off the bench while Luguentz Dort chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Thunder shot as they struggled to keep up with the pesky Magic and looked to be in trouble after trailing by 11 points in the fourth quarter, until they closed the final 6:39 on a decisive 23-4 run to run down the deficit and win comfortably in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nuggets are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a loss of more than 10 points. The Thunder are 5-1 ATS in their last six home games, 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a winning record and 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall.
Head to head, the under is 3-1-1 in the last five meetings overall, the Nuggets are 0-5 ATS in the last five meetings overall and the Nuggets are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Oklahoma City.
The Nuggets will be sweating on the availability of Bones Hyland and Ish Smith who are both questionable, while the Thunder are coming into this one missing just Chet Holmgren who is still recovering from surgery. The Nuggets were in great form before they ran into a desperate Lakers outfit on Sunday, but they will surely come out firing after enjoying so many days off. However, it won’t be easy against a confident Thunder team who are riding a four-game win streak. This should be a close one between two form teams, so I’m taking any points I can get. Give me the Thunder to push the Nuggets and at least get the cover at home.
