The Detroit Pistons and the Phoenix Suns do battle at the Footprint Center on Friday night.
The Detroit Pistons have been doing it tough so far as they’ve lost 15 of their first 20 games overall, but they will be gunning for a season-high third straight victory after beating the Jazz in a 125-116 road win on Wednesday. Bojan Bogdanovic led the team with 23 points, Kevin Knox drained six 3-pointers to finish with 21 points off the bench while Marvin Bagley added 19 points on nine of 10 shooting. As a team, the Pistons shot 49 percent from the field and 12 of 24 from the 3-point line as they came out swinging and poured in 36 points in the second quarter to build an early 14-point lead, but they had to scrap and eventually closed the final 2:36 on a 12-6 run to escape with the upset win.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns have been in decent shape as they’ve won three of their last four games and they will be gunning for a third straight victory after beating the Lakers in a 115-105 home win on Tuesday. Devin Booker and Mikal Bridges led the team in scoring with 25 points each, Duane Washington Jr. added 15 points off the bench while DeAndre Ayton chipped in with 14 points and 15 rebounds. As a team, the Suns shot 47 percent from the field and 16 of 34 from the 3-point line as they went back and forth with the Lakers in a close contest until they took over and outscored them by 62-50 in the second half to escape with the solid win.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pistons are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six road games, 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The Suns are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a win and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the Pistons are 27-10 ATS in the last 37 meetings overall and the Pistons are 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Phoenix.
The Pistons were absolutely ice-cold for their first 18 games of the season, but they are suddenly coming into this one with plenty of momentum after beating the Jazz for their second straight upset win. The Suns have been ticking along nicely despite playing without Chris Paul and they are a solid 4-0 ATS in their last four home games. The Pistons really shouldn’t have a chance in this matchup, but with the line so hefty, I’m willing to take a stab that the Suns won’t take this one too seriously. The Pistons are 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Phoenix and I think they can hang around long enough to get the backdoor cover here.
