The Los Angeles Lakers invade the Footprint Center to do battle with the Phoenix Suns on Monday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been building nicely as they’ve won three of their past four games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after sneaking past the Wizards in a 119-117 home win last night. LeBron James led the way with 33 points, seven rebounds and nine assists, Lonnie Walker added 21 points on seven of 12 shooting while Thomas Bryant tallied 16 points with 10 rebounds. As a team, the Lakers shot 50 percent from the field and 11 of 27 from the 3-point line as they squandered an early 14-point lead, before getting rescued in the end by Bryant who made the game-winning dunk with just 7.1 seconds left on the clock.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns look to have moved on from their ugly five-game losing streak as they are now gunning for a third straight victory after outlasting the Pelicans in a 118-114 home win on Saturday. Devin Booker led the way with 58 points on 21 of 35 shooting, Chris Paul added 18 points with eight assists while Mikal Bridges chipped in with 15 points. As a team, the Suns shot 47 percent from the field and 15 of 41 from the 3-point line as they got off to a terrible start and trailed by as many as 24 points, but they refused to give up and exploded for 72 points in the second half to escape with the impressive comeback win.
The Lakers will be shorthanded again as Anthony Davis is still out, while the Suns are keeping an eye on DeAndre Ayont who is considered questionable. The Lakers were far from convincing in their narrow win over the slumping Wizards last night, but they got the job done and they’ll have their eyes on pulling off the upset despite playing on zero days’ rest. However, the Suns are starting to heat up again, especially Booker who just dropped 58 points in a comeback win that the Suns desperately needed for their own confidence. This should be close in the first half, but in the end I have the Suns pulling away for the win and cover at home.
