The Utah Jazz play host to the Los Angeles Lakers at the Vivint Arena on Monday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been the most disappointing team in the league so far as they’ve lost seven of their first nine games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after last night’s 114-100 loss to the Cavaliers. LeBron James led the way with 27 points, seven rebounds and four assists, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook each scored 19 points while Troy Brown Jr. chipped in with 12 points. As a team, the Lakers shot 46 percent from the field and eight of 27 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in control after exploding for 36 points in the first quarter to build a 12-point lead, but they just couldn’t find any rhythm or offense in the second half where they managed just 36 points to allow the Cavaliers to run them down easily in the end.
Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz have been in great shape as they’ve won eight of their first 11 games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after taking down the Clippers in a 110-102 road win last night. Jordan Clarkson led the team with 23 points and five assists, Collin Sexton added 22 points off the bench, Lauri Markkanen scored 18 points while Mike Conley chipped in with 17 points. As a team, the Jazz shot 46 percent from the field and 15 of 40 from the 3-point line as they poured in 34 points in the second quarter to take the early lead, before pulling away behind their defense as they held the Clippers to just 17 points in the fourth quarter to escape with the solid road win.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games playing on zero days rest and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Jazz are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games playing on zero days’ rest and 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall.
Head to head, the Lakers are 9-3 ATS in the last 12 meetings overall and the Lakers are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Utah.
The Lakers really need a win to get themselves out of their funk, but they’ve just struggled so much this season and they will be low on confidence after last night’s loss to the Cavaliers. The Jazz are continuing to surprise teams on a nightly basis and it was the Clippers who found out last night just how good this new-look Jazz team is. These two squads last met on Friday and it was the Jazz who rolled to a 130-116 win on the road. Yes, the Lakers are getting desperate so you know they’ll come out firing, but they haven’t been able to sustain any sort of run yet, so I’m sticking with the Jazz to beat them again.
