The Golden State Warriors travel to the Crypto.com Arena to take on the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night.
The Golden State Warriors have been well below their best lately as they’ve lost five of their last eight games overall and they will be hoping for a better performance after getting beaten by the Clippers in a 134-124 road loss last Tuesday. Jordan Poole led the team with 28 points and six assists on 10 of 20 shooting, Klay Thompson added 18 points while Draymond Green tallied 15 points with five rebounds and seven assists. As a team, the Warriors shot 54 percent from the field and 15 of 34 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in control when they poured in 42 points in the second quarter to take the lead into halftime, but they let all their hard work go to waste in the third quarter where the Clippers exploded for 44 points to flip the game on its head.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have been in decent shape as they’ve split their last eight games overall and they will be looking to build some momentum after making light work of the Pelicans in a 120-102 win last Wednesday. Anthony Davis dominated from the tipoff to lead the team with 28 points, 10 rebounds and five assists on 13 of 17 shooting, LeBron James and D’Angelo Russell each scored 21 points while Dennis Schroder chipped in with 10 points on three of four shooting off the bench. As a team, the Lakers shot 53 percent from the field and 10 of 37 from the 3-point line as they scored just 17 points in the first quarter to waste an early 15-point lead, but they reclaimed controlled and poured in 65 points in the second half to make it look easy in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Warriors are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record, 0-3-1 ATS in their last four road games and 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Lakers are 8-20 ATS in their last 28 games following a win of more than 10 points and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-1 in the last six meetings overall.
The Warriors are still shorthanded for this one as Stephen Curry, Gary Payton and Andrew Wiggins are all out, while the Lakers are keeping an eye on LeBron James who sustained a hand injury during the All-Star game. The Warriors have struggled for consistency since Curry went down, but a road win over the Lakers would do wonders for their confidence given their rivalry. You couldn’t back either team with too much confidence at the moment, but the Lakers looked good in their last win, especially Davis who barely missed on his way to 28 points. It’s hard to split these two at the moment, but I think the Lakers can pull off the victory behind big games from James and Davis.
