The San Antonio Spurs and Detroit Pistons meet Wednesday in NBA preseason action at the Little Caesars Arena. The San Antonio Spurs won their preseason opener against the Jazz. The Detroit Pistons have won 20 games back-to-back seasons but hope to take a step forward in Dwane Casey’s fourth year.
The San Antonio Spurs have split their last six preseason games. The San Antonio Spurs are averaging 111 points on 46.5 percent shooting and allowing 85 points on 31.7 percent shooting. Dejounte Murray is averaging 17 points and three rebounds while Joshua Primo is averaging 17 points and one assist. Bryn Forbes is the third double-digit scorer and Keldon Johnson is dishing two assists. The San Antonio Spurs are shooting 35.3 percent from beyond the arc and 76 percent from the free throw line. The San Antonio Spurs are allowing 23.3 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 60 rebounds per game.
The Detroit Pistons are a young basketball team that’s just waiting for some of its youth to blossom, as players such as Killian Hayes, Isaiah Stewart and Saddiq Bey are coming off their rookie seasons. Of course, Cade Cunningham was this years first overall pick and many peg him as a future star in this league. Luka Garza was an absolute stud for the Iowa Hawkeyes and he put on a show throughout summer league. Jerami Grant has shown flashes of being more than just a quality role player and the addition of Kelly Olynyk brings experience and outside shooting. The Pistons are still in rebuild mode, but there’s a ton of talented youth on this roster and it may not be long before things start to take shape. It looks like the Pistons finally have a plan.
The Spurs are 14-6-1 ATS in their last 21 road games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as a favorite. The Pistons are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
The San Antonio Spurs looked terrific in their preseason opener, as they were lights out defensively and gobbled up all of the rebounds. However, the Detroit Pistons are at home, it’s their first time taking the floor and there’s a lot of young, talented players eager to prove themselves and fighting for playing time. I like young teams in preseason play, because minutes on the table creates competition and produces results.
I’ll back the Pistons here and whatever the line is…
