Minnesota Timberwolves vs Detroit Pistons NBA Picks, Odds, Predictions 12/23/20

The Detroit Pistons invade the Target Center to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night.

The Detroit Pistons come into this season with plenty of question marks after finishing with just 20 wins last season. Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose are the only two recognized players that remain from last season’s core, but they got plenty of young players. Killian Hayes was selected with the 7th overall pick, Isaiah Stewart was selected with the 16th pick, Saddiq Bey was selected with the 19th pick while Jerami Grant, Mason Plumlee and Jahlil Okafor were all acquired via free agency. Christian Wood was surprisingly let go while Luke Kennard was traded away.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves will be excited to see what they have after taking Anthony Edwards with the first overall pick to support young stars D’Angelo Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns. Ricky Rubio makes his return to the Timberwolves after a strong season with the Phoenix Suns, so as long as they stay healthy, the Timberwolves should improve on last season where they won just 19 games.

Looking at the betting trends, the Pistons are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games and 1-5 ATS in their last six games playing on three or more days rest. The Timberwolves are 15-35-1 ATS in their last 51 home games, 0-4 ATS in their last four games playing on three or more days rest and 17-35-1 ATS in their last 53 games overall.

Head to head, the over is 7-1 in the last eight meetings overall, the Pistons are 8-1 ATS in the last nine meetings overall and the Pistons are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings in Minnesota.

The Pistons are looking to rebuild this season and it’ll be interesting to see what lineup they settle on after hauling in a truckload of new players and there’s a lot to be excited about if you’re a Timberwolves fan with Edwards set to make his NBA debut. The Pistons are 8-1 ATS in the last nine meetings overall and 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings in Minnesota, so they represent decent value as the road underdog here.
