The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Phoenix Suns collide at the Footprint Center on Wednesday night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been on a nice run as they are now gunning for a fifth straight victory after sneaking past the Kings in a 119-115 road win on Monday. Jaden McDaniels led the team with 20 points, Naz Reid added 18 points off the bench while Anthony Edwards chipped in with 17 points and seven assists. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 51 percent from the field and nine of 24 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 34 points in the first quarter before they used a pivotal 20-11 run in the fourth quarter to pull away and escape with the narrow victory.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns are in a slump as they’ve lost six of their last nine games, but they will be aiming for a third straight victory after blowing past the Jazz in a 117-103 road win on Monday. Devin Booker led the team with 24 points and five assists, Deandre Ayton added 14 points while Terrence Ross chipped in with 13 points off the bench. As a team, the Suns shot 42 percent from the field and 11 of 36 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in trouble when they saw an early 16-point lead shrink down to nothing, before they poured in 33 points in the fourth quarter to make it look easy in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Timberwolves are 7-2 ATS in their last nine road games, 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a win. The Suns are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a win, 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 2-7 ATS in their last nine games overall.
Head to head, the under is 11-5 in the last 16 meetings in Phoenix, the Timberwolves are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Phoenix and the Timberwolves are 7-18-1 ATS in the last 26 meetings overall.
The Timberwolves are keeping an eye on Taurean Prince who is questionable with an illness, while the Suns have listed Kevin Durant as questionable for this one. The Timberwolves have come to life with four wins on the trot and they would’ve taken plenty of confidence from their upset win over the surging Kings on Monday. The Suns are still playing well below their best lately, but they’re starting to get healthy again and they just blew past the Jazz in their last outing. I have been impressed by the Timberwolves’ recent run of form, but the Suns should win this one and I really like their chances if Durant is able to return.
