The San Antonio Spurs play host to the Houston Rockets at the AT&T Center on Wednesday night.
The Houston Rockets have been in a major slump for a while now as they’ve lost 11 of their past 12 games overall and they will be hoping to snap a three-game slide after getting routed by the 76ers in a 111-91 loss on Monday. Christian Wood and Jalen Green each scored 14 points, Josh Christopher added 13 points off the bench while Daniel Theis chipped in with 12 points. As a team, the Rocket shot just 39 percent from the field and 13 of 42 from the 3-point line, but they struggled to keep up with the 76ers right from the start and were always fighting an uphill battle after falling behind by double-digits in the first quarter. Christopher shot just three of 10 from the field while Kevin Porter Jr. finished with just eight points on two of nine shooting from the field.
Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have been in terrible shape lately as they’ve lost seven of their past eight games and they will be hoping to snap a three-game skid after getting routed by the Knicks in a 111-96 road loss on Monday. Dejounte Murray led the team with 24 points and five assists on 11 of 19 shooting, Lonnie Walker added 15 points on five of 19 shooting while Jakob Poeltl chipped in with 12 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. As a team, the Spurs shot 41 percent from the field and eight of 29 from the 3-point line as they struggled to gain any separation until the third quarter where they went on a decisive 18-2 run to push the lead out to 25 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Rockets are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games, 19-42 ATS in their last 61 games against a team with a losing record and 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games overall. The Spurs are 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 games following a loss of more than 10 points and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the under is 5-0 in the last five meetings overall, the Rockets are 1-5-1 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and the Rockets are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings in San Antonio.
The Spurs could really do with a win to get their season back on track and they might have found the perfect opponent in the slumping Rockets who have lost 11 of their past 12 games. The Spurs have really gone off the boil lately, but that’s nothing compared to the Rockets who are 1-5-1 ATS in the last seven meetings overall. The line is just short enough for me to feel good about taking the Spurs to cover at home.
