Tennessee Titans vs. Washington Redskins Free Pick- 8/8/13

The Tennessee Titans and the Washington Redskins face off on Thursday Night in preseason NFL action.
The Tennessee Titans are coming off of a tough season but they are hoping to turn things around although they know that will start with winning more games in their division. Jake Locker will be counted on at QB but the Titans have several on their roster like Ryan Fitzpatrick, Rusty Smith, and Nathan Enderle but none of them look to have the ability to guide the team to a lot of wins. Chris Johnson will need to return to form after a bad season while Shonn Greene was brought in as a backup and Jalen Parmele and Darius Reynoud will fight for time. If Kendall Wright and Kenny Britt can stay healthy the Titans have nice starting wide receivers and Nate Washington led them last season and Justin Hunter was a high second round pick in this year’s draft. Delanie Walker steps in at tight end and Craig Stevens is the backup.
Defensively there just aren’t a lot of big names for Tennessee but Kamerion Wimbley is a proven pass rusher, Derrick Morgan plays the other tight end spot and Sammie Lee Hill and Jurrell Casey round out the starting DL and Keyunta Dawson, Lavar Edwards, Mike Martin and others will all fight for position. Colin McCarthy has emerged as a steady force at MLB and Akeem Ayers and Zach Bitemn are on the outsides while Patrick Bailey, Zaviar Gooden, Moise Fokou and others will all see action in this one. Jason McCourty and Alterraun Verner are the corners and Michael Griffin and Bernard Pollard are the safeties with George Wilson, Cody Sensabaugh, Blidi Wreh-Wilson and many others will provide the backups.
The Washington Redskins were a playoff team a season ago and they are going to need to work hard if they are going to make it back this season. QB Robert Griffin III hobbled off of the field last season but all indications are that he is ready to go but if not Kirk Cousins is a more than capable backup while Rex Grossman and Pat White are basically taking up roster spots of players who at least have the possibility to contribute. Alfred Morris had a monster rookie year at running back with little expected of him but the word is out now and Evan Royster, Roy Helu, and Chris Thompson will all have their chances. Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan are the starting wide receivers while the ageless Santana Moss is more than capable and Leonard Hankerson will be asked to step up his game or he Skins will look to others on the roster. Fred Davis is a top tier tight end and rookie Jordan Reed will be expected to contribute.

With the Redskins offense in good shape the defense is solid as well but they are going to be pushed and tested. Jarvis Jenkins, Barry Cofield, and Stephen Bowen are the starters and the DL while Adam Carriker, Phillip Merling, Kedric Golson and others will see the field and rotate in. The Washington linebackers are a nice group with Brian Orakpo, emerging star Ryan Kerrigan, solid veteran London Fletcher, and Perry Riley and they are many deep with names like Darryl Tapp, Brandon Jenkins, Roddrick Muckelroy Byan Kehl and others. DeAngelo Hall and Josh Wilson are the corners and Reed Doughty and the inconsistent Brandon Merriweather are the safeties while Phillip Thomas, Richard Crawford, rookie Baccari Rambo and others will fight for a place.
Look for the Titans to be hungrier and more focused at home and look for Mike Shanahan to treat this like a series of practice plays rather than practicing a game giving the Titans a decided edge on the scoreboard.
