Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Miami Dolphins Free Pick- 8/9/13

The Miami Dolphins will look to avenge a sloppy effort in the Hall of Fame game as they take on their in-state rivals from Jacksonville on Friday night.
Miami had a new look against the Cowboys in Canton last week but it was the same old performance from the Dolphins as they looked abysmal from the opening snap and now will be out for revenge as they take on the anemic Jacksonville Jaguars. Lamar Miller fumbled the opening snap which doesn’t bode well for the Phins as he will be relied on heavily by Miami’s offense and Matt Moore looked average at best as the Dolphins were upended 24-20 in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score indicates. Mike Wallace was absent from the HOF game which was greatly felt by Miami’s offense but if we can see even a glimpse of Wallace in this one it could very well reshape the entire offense and give Dolphins fans something to look forward to this season. Taking on the Jaguars the Dolphins need this game as a confidence booster as a loss to a lower caliber squad could do damage to the psyche of the team moving forward.
The Jaguars have had a tough stretch over the last few years and now heading into 2013 without a proven quarterback, some depth issues at running back, and a defense that looks shady at best it could be another long season in Jacksonville. Maurice Jones-Drew is undoubtedly one of the best in the game on the ground but he is very much injury prone due to his running style and overactive workload and now with Rashad Jennings leaving for Oakland the backup role is very much in question. Cecil Shorts emerged as a nice deep threat for the Jags but the skill level of Missouri product Blaine Gabbert remains a mystery and Jags fans can’t be overly excited with the product they’re putting on the field this season. This is a tough one to call as the Jags are awful and the Phins didn’t look very good in Canton but I have to give them the edge as they have had the chance to get some of the bugs out and I expect more of their roster players to play a more significant role in this one. Taking Miami but treading lightly.
